Hyundai Tucson 2023 Review
Introducing the Hyundai Tucson 2023
The Hyundai Tucson has been one of the best-selling SUVs in the UK for years, and it's easy to see why. It's stylish, spacious, and packed with features that make it a great option for families, commuters, and adventure-seekers alike. In this article, we'll look closer at the 2023 Hyundai Tucson and explore its key features, performance, and overall value.
Hyundai Tucson trim levels and standard equipment
The Hyundai Tucson is available in a range of trims in the UK, each with its own set of features and options. Here's a breakdown of the available trims:
SE Connect
Even for the base trim level, the SE Connect is anything but basic. It comes with a vast range of standard features, including a 10.25" infotainment system equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10.25" digital instrument cluster, 17" alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, a rear-view camera, cruise control, DAB radio, dual-zone climate control and electrically adjustable, heated and power folding door mirrors.
Premium
The Premium trim level builds on the SE Connect, adding features such as 18.0" alloy wheels, smart adaptive cruise control, heated front seats and steering wheel, ambient interior lighting and front and rear parking sensors in addition to the rear-view camera and a handy wireless charging pad. The Krell audio system with eight speakers and a subwoofer delivers fantastic audio.
N Line
The N Line trim level is a sportier version of the Tucson and has a more distinct look, featuring a bespoke front grille, bumpers, spoilers and 19.0" alloy wheels. The interior includes sporty N-branded seats with leather and black suede coverings with red stitching. The steering wheel also comes with an N logo. Additional equipment includes a wireless charging pad, smart key, ambient interior lighting, parking sensors, dual-zone climate and heated front seats.
N Line S
This model adds a heated steering wheel, three-zone climate control, a smart electric tailgate, a slide-and-tilt electric panoramic sunroof and the premium Krell audio system with a subwoofer and eight speakers.
Ultimate
The Ultimate trim level is the top-of-the-line Tucson. It comes with premium features such as 19.0" alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof with a front section electric tilt/slide function, and leather upholstered seats with electric adjustment to the driver and front passenger seats - which both have ventilation and heat functions. Drivers also benefit from having a seat position memory function. Occupants in the rear are treated to heated seats and can also control the climate in the back as part of the three-zone climate control function. Opening the boot is easy with the smart electric tailgate, which is useful when juggling many items in your hands.
Overall, the Hyundai Tucson is available in a range of trims to suit every driver's needs and budget, whether you're looking for a basic SUV that's still well-equipped or a fully-loaded model with all the latest features and technology.
Hyundai Tucson Exterior
The latest Hyundai Tucson underwent a significant redesign compared to its predecessor, with a bold new look that sets it apart from other SUVs on the market. Its sharp lines and sculpted curves give it a modern, sporty look, while the redesigned grille and headlights add a touch of elegance.
Hyundai Tucson Interior
Inside, the latest 2023 Hyundai Tucson, with its chrome trim and curved dashboard, is significantly improved compared to its dreary predecessor. It has shown that it can compete against upmarket competitors such as the VW Tiguan, Kia Sportage or the Volvo XC40 with the quality of its interior, with no flimsy or hard materials.
All the Hyundai Tucsons you lease have the same outstanding 10.25" infotainment system with a built-in sat-nav. We think it's up there with the very best displays on the market, with sharp graphics, a logical menu layout and excellent response time. Bluetooth and a DAB radio are standard, as are Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The extremely impressive 10.25" super vision instrument cluster display, also available across the range, is only bettered by the Audi Q3's Virtual Cockpit. A premium Krell audio system is provided on N Line S, Premium and Ultimate trims, and a useful wireless phone charging pad features on all but the SE Connect model.
A leather steering wheel is equipped as standard across the trims, while all versions, except for the entry-level SE Connect, include ambient lighting. Sportier N Line and N Line S variants add part-leather seats, while the top-of-the-range Ultimate trim has full leather seats.
Practicality and storage
The 2023 Tucson provides an abundance of legroom and head space for front-seat passengers, while adult occupants sitting the in the rear benefit from having plenty of knee space.
It's easy for drivers of the Tucson to get comfortable as electric adjustment for the lumbar support is provided as standard across each of the trims. However, you'll need to lease the top-end Ultimate trim to take full advantage of the electric height adjustment function. The Ultimate trim also gets ventilated seats, while the rest of the range (except for the base level SE Connect) includes heated seats.
The 2023 Hyundai Tucson's luggage capacity easily accommodates up to a whopping 620 litres of space. However, this depends on which engine you go with, as electrified models will have batteries that consume more boot space. Still, this amount of boot space is much larger than the Peugeot 3008 or the Nissan Qashqai, and it certainly competes well against rivals such as the Skoda Karoq and VW Tiguan.
Families will also be pleased with the numerous storage options, including a generous glovebox and convenient cupholders in the centre console.
2023 Hyundai Tucson engines
You can no longer lease or purchase a Hyundai Tucson with a diesel engine. Still, there's a decent choice with two 1.6 litre 150hp petrol engines, one of which is a mild-hybrid offering improved fuel efficiency improvements. You can also drive a 230hp full hybrid option and a 265hp plug-in hybrid variant which tops the range.
How fuel-efficient is the Hyundai Tucson?
The 1.6 148bhp TGDi petrol-only model in the entry-level SE Connect trim manages a respectable 41.5mpg on the combined cycle.
If you choose a mild-hybrid Tucson, you can opt for either a dual-clutch system or the Intelligent Manual transmission (IMT), although the former offers a slightly better economy with 43.5mpg.
The 227bhp full-hybrid significantly improves these fuel economy figures, delivering an average of nearly 50mpg. We've not yet seen Hyundai's published fuel economy information for the plug-in hybrid model, but with an all-electric driving range of approximately 30 miles, this might be the best model for overall fuel efficiency.
Which is the best Hyundai Tucson engine to choose?
For many drivers in these tough economic times, it won't matter how relaxing and comfy the Tucson is or how much technology is provided if it's too expensive to run. Thankfully, the South Korean manufacturer has given this much thought, as nearly all Tucson models feature mild, full or plug-in hybrid technology that reduces CO2 emissions and fuel consumption.
The most affordable Tucson to lease will probably be the 1.6 148bhp TGDi petrol-only entry-level SE Connect trim. This comes with a six-speed manual gearbox and delivers a decent 41.5mpg on the combined cycle.
How safe is the Hyundai Tucson?
The safety of the Hyundai Tucson 2023 has been assessed by the independent safety organisation Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Programme), which awarded the SUV its maximum five-star safety rating.
The Tucson comes with a comprehensive range of standard safety features, including driver assistance systems such as Lane Follow Assist (LFA), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA), Forward Collision Assist (FCA) – with car, pedestrian and cycle detection, Multi Collision Braking (MCA), Manual Speed Limit Assist (MSLA), a tyre pressure monitoring system with an individual tyre display, a reversing camera and a driver attention warning system.
The Premium trim adds further safety equipment such as Forward Collision Avoidance Assist (FCA) with additional Junction Turning assist on Hybrid and DCT models, Rear Cross Traffic Collision Warning (RCCW), a Safe Exit Warning and Blind Spot Collision Warning (BCW) with additional Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist (BCA) on Hybrid variants.
N Line S trims include Rear Cross Traffic Alerts and a Blind Spot Collision Warning.
Additional safety equipment on the top-of-the-range Ultimate trim includes Highway Drive Assist (HDA), Rear Cross Traffic Collision Avoidance (RCCA) and Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist (BCA).
Overall, the Hyundai Tucson is considered one of the safest family SUVs in the UK, but it is always important to drive safely and follow all traffic laws and regulations to reduce the risk of accidents further.

What is a Hyundai Tucson comparable to?
The latest versions of the Kia Sportage, Peugeot 3008, Skoda Karoq, Nissan Qashqai and Ford Kuga provide some of the sternest competition to the Hyundai Tucson. At the same time, you could also consider looking at Volkswagen's offerings, such as the VW Tiguan or the SEAT Ateca.
