Alongside the new rear lights the entire back end has been cleaned up with fewer lines and no fake exhaust tips.

The X3 has also grown in size, adding to an imposing stance and increased road presence. The side profile is similar to that of the X1, with an upright rear end, making it look far more aggressive, even though the car actually sits 25mm lower than the current X3. The new alloy wheels start from 18 inches in size to 19, 20, and even 21-inch alloys.

The old BMW X3 cabin has had a complete revamp with the latest model. Now dominated with screens in the cabin and a sweeping fabric design on the dashboard. The large infotainment screen is utilising BMW’s latest iDrive operating system, meaning its bursting the clever features like better voice commands, music and video streaming services and even games like Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. And of course, there is now plenty of ambient lighting to go around.

The new BMW X3 comes with 3 different engine options, as well as a performance version. The entry level option gets a 2.0 litre petrol engine with 208hp, or you can have a diesel variant with 197hp. There is also a plug-in hybrid option which offers lower emissions by pairing the 2.0 litre petrol engine with an electric motor which outputs a combined 299hp, with the capability to run up to 56 miles on electric power alone.

Now you probably want to know a bit more about the performance version, right? Well, this sporty family SUV uses a 3.0 litre turbocharged straight size engine, which makes almost 400hp, making it the most powerful petrol six cylinder fitted to an M-light model. It will also complete the 0-60 sprint in just 4.6 seconds. The performance M50 model also receives a special differential at the rear and an altered steering rack for fast, precise handling, alongside adaptive dampers as an option to reduce body roll.

To make sure everyone knows you’ve got the new BMW X3 M50, it comes with some styling upgrades, such as special 20-inch alloy wheels, a more aggressive body kit and quad tailpipes. It also benefits from the optional extra for an illuminated grille from standard.
