Renault is taking adventure to a new level, turning heads with the introduction of the exciting Renault 4 Savane 4x4 Concept. Building upon the upcoming all-electric Renault 4, this new rugged variant promises an all-terrain explorer.

Retro Name, Modern Twist

Reviving the classic 'Savane' badge, which first appeared on Renault’s rugged vehicles back in the 1950s. Renault’s latest concept showcases their vision for blending classic heritage with modern electric innovation. Originally, the Savane was an upgraded Renault 4 variant built for tougher roads and the great outdoors. This new concept continues that tradition.

Built to Go Further

At the heart of the Renault 4 Savane 4x4 concept is an additional electric motor positioned at the rear axle. This dual-motor configuration not only provides permanent all-wheel drive but dramatically boosts traction, ensuring the Savane can confidently handle mud, snow, and uneven terrain. While the standard Renault 4 offers a single electric motor powering the front wheels, the Savane’s twin-motor setup signals Renault's bold intentions to capture the hearts of adventurers.

Enhanced Capability and Rugged Styling

The Renault 4 Savane concept sits 15mm taller than the standard model, paired with a widened track for improved stability over rough ground. Specially designed 18-inch steel wheels wrapped in Goodyear UltraGrip Performance tyres further enhance its off-road capabilities, while the black body cladding and distinctive front and rear bumpers underline its rugged charm.

The eye-catching Jade Green paintwork contrasts beautifully with gloss black elements, complemented by a distinctive pixelated camouflage pattern on the fabric roof. Inside, Renault keeps the nostalgia alive with Deep Brown textured upholstery and a fabric-lined dashboard.

Electrifying Performance

Renault hasn’t confirmed detailed performance figures yet but given the single-motor Renault 4 produces up to 148bhp, the dual-motor Savane could potentially approach 300bhp, putting it in similar territory to electric rivals like the Skoda Elroq vRS. The original single-motor version’s 52kWh battery provides an estimated 250-mile range.

Production Prospects

Though currently labelled as a concept car, the Savane 4x4 showcases the capability of Renault’s new AmpR Small platform to incorporate a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup. Renault designers and engineers have publicly expressed optimism, with Sandeep Bhambra, Chief Designer at Renault, emphasising how this concept embodies the Renault 4’s heritage of exploration and adventure.

Renault is yet to formally confirm production plans, but the existence of this concept sends a strong signal. Enthusiasts will no doubt be eagerly watching Renault’s next moves, hoping that consumer excitement and feedback will transform this concept into reality.
