The Audi S3 Sportback hatchback and S3 Saloon have undergone some significant enhancements. With pre-orders beginning in May, let’s dive into what makes the new Audi S3 ‘new and improved’.

The new Audi S3 debuts with a striking aesthetic overhaul and mechanical advancements that elevate its performance capabilities. At the heart of these changes is an increase in power. The new S3 boasts 333 PS, up from the previous 310 PS, as well as 420 Nm of torque. This upgrade shaves a tenth of a second off its 0-62 mph acceleration, now clocking in at an impressive 4.7 seconds.

And to go with that extra power... improved braking systems, featuring two-pot callipers and larger discs.

Implementing features from its louder sibling, the Audi RS 3, the new S3 is equipped with a torque splitter that enhances its agility. This optimally distributes torque between the rear wheels, ensuring better traction and a more responsive driving experience.

Visually, the Audi S3 sets itself apart with a redesigned front end that includes a sportier diffuser and configurable daytime running lights. The rear isn't left behind, featuring a four-pipe performance exhaust system that not only looks impressive but sounds great too.

The new S3 sits 15mm lower than the standard A3, thanks to the 'S Sport' suspension. For those opting for the fully loaded ‘Vorsprung’ variants, adaptive dampers further refine the driving experience.

Inside, the Audi S3 continues to impress with a cabin that exudes more charisma and advanced ergonomics. The integration of a new shifter design, enhanced air vents, and upgraded ambient lighting create an atmosphere that's both premium and inviting. A 10.1-inch touchscreen display comes included as standard, along with wireless phone charging and additional USB C charging ports.

The engine and transmission of the S3 have been fine-tuned for an even more engaging drive. Features such as a preloaded turbocharger and a reconfigured seven-speed S tronic transmission ensure that the S3 delivers power more efficiently and responsively. This setup allows for quicker gear shifts under full load and more dynamic acceleration during everyday driving.

Drive modes have been increased to six choices, including the new ‘dynamic plus mode’ which allows you to explore the car’s oversteer capabilities on the track.

An Audi spokesperson adds: “With a host of new features, the Audi S3 is more than just a product upgrade: Increased output, a torque splitter, and other technology highlights ensure strong performance and agile handling. Visually, the compact model reflects its increased dynamics with an expressive front design, a sporty diffuser, and a four-pipe performance exhaust system. The Audi S3, available as a Sportback and Saloon, goes on sale in May.”
